$131 Craftroom Makeover

Image
The craft-room, it is my favorite place in my apartment.  It is a place to store my horde of fabric, buttons, markers and every scrap I have ever created.  However, having such a large, materials driven, hobby creates a huge mess if you don't have it organized right.  And well... I didn't have mine organized.  It was a huge mess.  It became the dumping ground for anything we didn't want in the living room.  This would just piled up in front of the door way.  Every flat surface was covered with something.  I am sure others out there can sympathize.  The room had gotten so bad that I couldn't even cut out patters anymore.  I started migrating in to the living room (which is supposed to be a pin free zone!). However, being a teacher means summers = free time.  I decided to use mine wisely and really give my whole craft-room an overhaul.  I figured there are others out there who might  be dealing with this same issue. ...

Hair, Hair Hair

I was paroosing the net this morning and stumbled upon this little webpage with some goodies about vintage/ historical hairstyles. A couple points of interests are Victorian Hair and The Bob They just give you a brief history and outlook of the time period when it comes to hair.  I found it quite entertaining.  Take a gander at it. The Main page is http://www.hairarchives.com/private/mainnew.htm Enjoy!

FYI- Fitting Shirts, Dress Forms and Custom Clothing

Hello All, I was browsing youtube.com today looking for a tutorial on hidden zippers and I came across this video from Threadbangers. It starts off talking about fitting baggy shirts and moves on to custom dress forms. Take a look. I highly suggest watching the section about dress forms and then making one for yourself. It makes a world of difference in your garments if you have a clone to fit it on. Happy Sewing!

Clean up, Clean up

Step 1 of project Wedding dress has started. I cleaned up my craft room. If you know me at all then you know that is an accomplishment for me. But, Kelly's dress was worth it :-p I tend to be a messy, add craftster. I may have many projects going on at one time. Below are some pictures of the torando that was my craft- room. I had been so proccupied with the steampunk costumes I forgot about organization. And things just got piled up in here. (Excuse my dress form, she is a bit of an exhibitionist and forgot to put on her shirt.) Below are a couple pictures of my cleaned up craft room. This year has been the first time I have ever had a room dedicated to just my craft stuffs. I am still in the process of finding a good organization system. My current one consists of drawers, containers, boxes and shelves in the closet. I also have cork boards up for design sketched and project ideas. I have to say that is one of my favorite parts of my craft room....

11 Parts to a Wardrobe

Recently I have a lot of time on my hands. Work is out till Jan. 5th and I have found myself watching reruns of project runway and Tim Gunn's Guide to style. Both of these have inspired me to revamp my whole wardrobe. However rather than going out and buying a million things and spending way to much, I wanna make a new wardrobe. To start off, according to Tim Gunn and his other fashionista flunkies, there some crucial pieces that every wardrobe needs to have to be complete. You know, I am inclined to agree. These pieces include: 1. Classic Dress pant 2. A good pair of jeans 3. A basic black dress 4. A well fitting white button down 5. Trench Coat 6. Basic Skirt (A line or pencil depending on your shape) 7. Blazer 8. Day Dress 9. Belt 10.Track Suit Alternative 11.Cashmere Sweater I myself have a few of these pieces, and got a nice black dress for Christmas. However, with my new dress form I am setting the challenge for myself to make what missing pieces I can a...
