So if feels like forever since I last posted.  Probably because it has been.  This time of year is always crazy for me.  I usually have a different holiday event every weekend of December.  So I thought I would take the time to catch you guys up a bit.

Christmas Tree Lighting Dec. 3rd.

Most years I go to my family's home town for a bit of Ole' Fashion Christmas.  This is the type of town, that at Christmas you feel like you have jumped in to "A Christmas Story".  The whole town shows up for the tree lighting.  The high school band is playing Christmas carols on the street corners.  The fire trucks are all spruced up with lights.  There is even an elf band singing Christmas songs.  It really does feel like you are in a movie. I did take some videos but they all turned out really black.  So I will just post some of the photos that I took.  I promise to have videos in the future.  I got a nice, shiny, new camera for my birthday that should take better video.
 
Dickens Fair!
So I know this is what you all have been waiting for.  Here are the pictures of my sort of finished Dickens Dress from this eyear.  I am not really all that happy with it.  However, it still turned out pretty good.  I will do a post later on soley dedicated to the dress. But, I thought you all would like a peak at it now.

Loving my Pattern Collection

If I had one piece of advice to aspiring costume makers, it would be BUY PATTERNS!!  Doesn't matter if you think you will use it anytime soon or not.  If you like it and can afford it buy it.  My compulsion to buy patterns is really working in my favor right now.  I am a self taught seamstress and have had no formal sewing, draping or pattern making lessons.  This being the case I depend on my patterns. This has allowed me to piece things together, alter existing patterns and just some just for their general shape. I have come to the conclusion that I really need to learn how to knit.  I found these on mod cloth and really want a pair!  They are a throw back with a modern twist, which I LOVE! What do you think?  Any one have any tips on how to start learning?

Wedding Progress

So my wedding planning had been delayed for a bit, but I'm back at it.  Haven't really decided on a place yet.  I do have a list of places to check out.  What I have been looking at recently was dress patterns for my bride's maids.  I want something different, not just your typical David's Bridal generic bride's maid's dresses.  I have actually found a really cute site with some great patterns. She has a bunch of awesome patterns that I want to try out.  I think I might buy a few and just make some dresses for myself.  Here are the ones I was thinking could be potential bride's maids dresses http://www.colettepatterns.com        I want to have a summer wedding, so I don't want any big heavy dresses for my girls  I love #2.  It is cute, simplistic and classic.  I can definitely see my girls waking down the isle with me wearing that dress and little fasinators such as this.
